Amy & Jonathon’s Intimate Wedding Film at Merewood Country House Hotel

Amy and Jonathon’s wedding at Merewood Country House Hotel in the Lake District was a beautifully intimate celebration, shared with just a handful of their closest family and friends. It was a relaxed and incredibly personal day, with none of the fuss or pressure that can sometimes come with a larger wedding. Instead, the focus was on spending time together, enjoying the incredible surroundings and celebrating with the people who mattered most.

I’m based in the Peak District but regularly travel to the Lake District and across the UK to photograph and film weddings, so it was a real pleasure to capture Amy and Jonathon’s day and create a film that reflected how personal the celebration felt.

A Relaxed and Personal Wedding Day

From the morning preparations onwards, there was a lovely sense of calm about Amy and Jonathon’s wedding. With only their closest family and friends there, everyone felt involved in the day and there was plenty of time to simply enjoy being together.

The smaller size of the wedding made it feel particularly personal. Conversations, laughter and little interactions between family and friends became a big part of the story, alongside the more traditional moments of the day.

These are the things I look for when filming a wedding. The moments don't necessarily need to be dramatic or perfectly composed; often it's the small reactions and interactions that bring a wedding film to life.

Their Ceremony at Merewood Country House Hotel

The ceremony at Merewood Country House Hotel was intimate, emotional and full of genuine moments between Amy, Jonathon and their guests. With their closest family and friends gathered around them, there was a real sense of connection throughout the ceremony. From the anticipation beforehand to the smiles and reactions as they exchanged their vows, there was plenty happening that didn't need any direction from me. My approach to wedding videography is to let those moments happen naturally wherever possible. I'm there to document the day as it unfolds rather than constantly asking people to repeat things or perform for the camera.

Once the ceremony was over, everyone could relax and enjoy the rest of the day together.

Lake Windermere as the Backdrop

One of the highlights of filming Amy and Jonathon’s wedding was being able to make the most of the incredible setting around Lake Windermere. Merewood Country House Hotel sits in a spectacular part of the Lake District, and the views gave us the opportunity to create some beautiful cinematic footage without taking the couple away from their wedding for long periods.

We spent some time exploring the grounds and taking in the views, giving Amy and Jonathon a chance to have a few quieter moments together while I captured the scenery and their time together.

The combination of the historic country house, the surrounding landscape and Lake Windermere provided a fantastic setting for their wedding film, while still keeping the focus firmly on the two of them.

Filming the Moments In Between

For me, a good wedding film isn't just about recording the ceremony, speeches and first dance. It's about everything that happens around them. The conversations between family members, the nervous moments before the ceremony, the laughter during the drinks reception, the reactions during the speeches and all the little things that you might not notice while you're busy enjoying your wedding.

That's particularly important with an intimate wedding like Amy and Jonathon's, where so much of the day centred around the people they had chosen to share it with. I wanted their film to capture not just what the day looked like, but what it felt like to be there.

A Beautiful Lake District Wedding Film

Amy and Jonathon’s wedding was a great reminder that you don't need hundreds of guests to have an incredible wedding day. With their closest people around them and the incredible Lake District landscape as their backdrop, the day felt relaxed, genuine and completely personal to them. From the preparations through to the celebrations and those quieter moments overlooking Lake Windermere, there was a real story to capture. That's what I enjoy most about wedding filmmaking — taking all those individual moments and bringing them together into something you can watch years later and be taken straight back to the day.
