Derbyshire is a pretty brilliant place to get married. You’ve got grand country houses, old stone villages, barns, hotels, open countryside and the Peak District all packed into one county. I’m Pete, a wedding photographer and filmmaker based in the Peak District, and I photograph and film weddings throughout Derbyshire and the surrounding countryside. My approach is relaxed and documentary-led. I want to photograph the things that actually happen rather than manufacture moments that never would have happened without me. That means the nerves before the ceremony, your mates making each other laugh, the bits of the day that get slightly chaotic and the quieter moments you probably won't notice until you see the photographs afterwards. I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I’m not going to spend your wedding day telling you where to stand. You’ve got better things to do.

Derbyshire Wedding Photography That Feels Like Your Wedding

There are plenty of beautiful wedding venues across Derbyshire, but the venue isn't really what makes the photographs.

It’s the people. The look on someone's face when you walk into the ceremony. Your dad trying very hard not to cry. Friends who haven't seen each other for years ending up on the dance floor together. Someone saying something during the speeches that absolutely wasn't supposed to be said. Those are the things I’m looking for. Of course, I’ll photograph the important photographs you expect as well — family photographs, group shots, couple portraits and all the details you've spent months organising. But I want the gallery to feel like your day, rather than a collection of photographs that could belong to anyone.

Derbyshire Wedding Venues

Derbyshire has an incredible variety of wedding venues, from historic country houses and grand estates to barns, hotels and relaxed countryside settings. I regularly photograph and film weddings around Chesterfield, Ashbourne, Buxton, Belper, Matlock, Bakewell and the wider Peak District, so whether you've chosen a well-known venue or somewhere a little more off the beaten track, I can help you make the most of it. Some of the venues I work around include Peak Edge Hotel, White Hart Inn, Tissington Hall, Hargate Hall, Grangefields, Osmaston Park, Shottle Hall, Makeney Hall and Thornbridge Hall. The Landscape Is There If You Want It

One of the best things about photographing weddings in Derbyshire is the variety of places we can work with.

The Peak District gives you dramatic hills, gritstone edges, valleys, reservoirs and open moorland, while the rest of Derbyshire has its own mix of villages, woodland, estates and countryside. If you've got an incredible view nearby and want to make the most of it, great. If you'd rather stay with your guests and enjoy the wedding you've spent months planning, that's also great. I’m not going to disappear with you for an hour because I've found a nice hill. Sometimes ten minutes outside with the two of you is enough to create some brilliant photographs, and then you can get back to the party.

Photography, Film or Both

You can book me for wedding photography, wedding videography or combined photography and film. Photography captures the people, expressions and individual moments of the day. Film brings back the voices, speeches, music, movement and atmosphere that photographs can't. When you book both together, I can make sure they work as one visual story rather than feeling like two completely separate productions. I work closely with a trusted partner who handles the Photography whilst I shoot video, I also shoot 35mm and medium-format film on selected weddings when it adds something to the final collection.

Not Everything Has to Go to Plan

Derbyshire weather has a habit of doing whatever it wants. You might get sunshine all day. You might get rain five minutes before your outdoor photographs. You might get both. I'm not going to panic if the weather changes. Some of the best wedding photographs happen because plans have gone slightly wrong. Rain can mean everyone piles into the same room. A sudden break in the clouds can give you incredible light. A decision to head outside for five minutes can become one of your favourite parts of the day. The important thing is that you’re enjoying yourselves. I'll work with whatever the day gives us.
